About Us

Fabric Books and Toys is the online presence of Learn and Play, a company owned and operated by Arlyne Julao of Mariposa, California. Her interest in sewing is due in large measure to her grandparents, who started a small sewing and embroidery company in the late 1960s. They were assisted by their three daughters who learned how to sew from experience.  Through the years, they created wonderful embroidery work ranging from table cloths, placemats, and potholders, to dolls and ornaments. 

Shortly after completing college in the early 1990s, an idea came to Arlyne to create colorful, inter-active, embroidered, fabric books and toys.  The idea was encouraged and nurtured by her mother who had taught pre-school, kindergarten, and elementary school under child development centers for the U.S. Air Force and other private schools in California for over thirty years. 

Arlyne's background in technical drawing from when she was a student contributed to the designing of her many books and toys. She has also studied color combination and design involving fabric. 

Her books have only been sold to arts and crafts shows in the past, but are now offered through her new web site, Fabric Books and Toys.
